Eggland’s Best is working with its suppliers and customers to transition to 100 percent cage-free eggs by 2025.

In a statement published July 22 on its website, Eggland’s Best stated: “Humane animal care has always been one of the company’s highest priorities, and Eggland’s Best egg suppliers must adhere to very strict animal care requirements.  Eggland’s Best is the cage-free segment leader and is by far the largest cage-free brand in the U.S.”

The company added that it would not compromise food safety or animal welfare in working toward the goal.

“For years, Eggland’s Best has been at the forefront of egg industry best practices in a number of areas, including food safety, bird health, animal welfare, and third party audit requirements.  The company is extremely committed to the health and welfare of the hens that provide Eggland’s Best eggs.  We look forward to continuing our leadership in improving all aspects of cage-free egg production and animal welfare,” the company stated.

The Eggland’s Best pledge to sell only cage-free eggs follows decisions from the top 25 grocery store chains in the U.S. to phase out the use of eggs from operations that use layer cages. Numerous restaurant chains, foodservice companies and food processors have made similar pledges.
