PoultryWorld: Ukrainian eggs recalled in the UK over Salmonella concerns

19-10-2026

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has ordered the withdrawal and recall of all shell eggs stamped with the code 3UA1012066 after Salmonella was detected in eggs supplied by Yasensvit Ltd. of Kyiv, Ukraine.

The FSA issued a Food Alert for Action, reference FSA-FAFA-03-2026, on 10 October, covering all pack sizes and best-before dates. It said other eggs from the establishment carrying the same stamp may also be affected and that none should be eaten.

The agency said the eggs were not sold through supermarkets or other large retailers. Most were supplied through the catering supply chain, although some may have been sold through small shops, such as corner shops.

Tests found that the eggs carried a strain of the infectious bacterium directly linked to at least 36 infections this year.

Businesses urged to check egg codes

The FSA warned that eggs from Yasensvit may have been repacked by UK businesses, meaning the outer packaging could display different business details and packing centre codes.

Food businesses have been told to check the codes stamped on eggs in their control and immediately stop using or selling any marked 3UA1012066. They must withdraw the eggs from sale and recall them where retail sales have occurred. Affected eggs must be disposed of safely and must not be diverted for further processing.

Enforcement authorities have been asked to ensure that businesses that received the eggs carry out the required withdrawals and recalls. Local authorities have also been asked to report these actions back to the FSA.

Consumers warned not to eat affected eggs

Consumers have been told to check the code stamped on each egg and safely dispose of any carrying the code 3UA1012066.

Salmonella usually causes fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. The FSA said anyone experiencing symptoms should stay away from work, school or nursery until they have been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours.

Commenting on the situation, Jacquelyn McCormick, head of incidents at the Food Standards Agency, said: “We have identified Salmonella Enteritidis in eggs that were imported from a business in Ukraine and taken urgent action to protect public health. We have advised that any affected product on the UK market is withdrawn and recalled. This issue relates specifically to eggs from one business in Ukraine, which are primarily supplied through wholesalers and the catering supply chain, but are also sold at small retailers. Consumers should not eat these eggs and businesses should withdraw them and, where retail sales have occurred, recall them, as these eggs may be unsafe to eat.”
